halfway there!

halfway there!

Now that I have time to work on Samantha again (my Spring term classes are FINISHED), I’m loving how quickly it knits up. The back skirt and bodice seemed to take a long time, but this newly finished front right piece is zipping right along. I think I spent about four days of off-and-on knitting getting this one done.

I’m still a little iffy on the shaping, and I had to frog every single buttonhole row, but I still love the pattern. It’s very sweet and cute without being too cloying.

Last night I cast on and began the front left piece. Once it’s done, I just have the piecing and sleeves to do!

Nice to see your progress. I’m the person who left the comment last time. We are now at about the same point in Samantha. I’d like to know how it works out for you when you do the three needle bind offs for the shoulders and pick up for the collar. that is where I ran into trouble and have since undone a lot to try again after fussing with the pattern on my own. Here was my problem: when I picked up all the reserved stitches for the collar and began on the picot collar, all of my right side neck shaping resulted in small holes/ gaps where the collar joined. I’m about to re-try the collar now that I’ve fussed with it all and hopefully there won’t be any holes. If it works out, I figure I’ll let Kate Gilbert know. I previously contacted her about the Left Front neck shaping error (the instructions result in shaping the wrong way) and she was very prompt and helpful.

I’m having the same exact problem … did your undoing/redoing help at all? I wish I’d remembered your comment when I was doing the shaping this weekend — it would have saved me some grief in wondering and fretting about whether the instructions were wrong!

I posted a few pics from today on my blog: http://lifetrain.blogspot.com . I am now stuck trying to figure out how to stitch the loops to the neck area to finish off the collar. But, I think that my “fanangling” of the pattern has helped. If you think you’ll rip it back, I’ll let you know what I did on each row. I like your idea of knitting in the round for the sleeves.
