Bamboo

You are bamboo.

Warm, cozy, and thoughtful, you take your time and enjoy how things feel, smell, and taste. You love the craft and beauty of traditional
things, and you value the comfort and experience of knitting as much as the results. But while you are reveling in your warm cozies, don’t get stuck. Warm is wonderful, but so is the whole wide world!

What kind of knitting needles are you?

I give!

I caved. I was too tempted by the many pictures of Clapotis and the Lorna’s Laces Lion and Lamb yarn that I’ve seen. I decided that my birthday gift to myself is a splurge on this yarn. Hopefully the silk will be enough of a counter to the wool and I won’t itch to death every time I wear it.

So … Clapotis, here I come. You are going to be knit in Icehouse, especially after I saw these examples of other yarn projects in that color:

Looking for yarn …

I’m looking at this new pattern (Clapotis) from Knitty.com, desperately wanting to make it but not able to afford the yarn they recommend. I also wouldn’t be able to tolerate the wool-blend yarn recommended, either.

I’ve found from the Lorna’s Laces site that the Lion and Lamb yarn knits up to 4.5 stitches/inch … or 18 stitches/4 inches, if you’re like me and need math done for you when you go look at other yarn types. I’m trying to find an affordable yarn without a trace of wool, that would be pretty and striking in this pattern. Any recommendations?

I’ve seen this Aurora ribbon yarn on elann.com and thought it might work …

Pink Sweater — Almost there!

Ta da!!

Pink sweater finished - front

Pink sweater finished - back

It just needs the ends woven in, a little mending under the arms, and buttons! Now to finish the blanket … it’s a good thing I left the other sweater in Dallas this week.

New Knitty!

Because we always need new things to knit or have in the back of our minds … here’s the announcement message from the knitty.com folks! Yay!

Dear readers and contributors,

As much a labor of love as the first issue, I think, this one is our
9th…and celebrates our 2nd anniversary hogging bandwidth for pleasure.

It’s bigger than any before and, if you ask me, better. But I’d be biased,
wouldn’t I?

I’ve only looked at the cover and I already want to make this for myself. Yes, Dell, for myself! Not for a pregnant friend or a baby, for myself!

And I want to make this for my brother for Christmas …

And this scarf for myself …

Polar sock sweater

Dell says that the newest sweater I’m knitting better not turn out to be cute. She doesn’t want to find herself lusting after sock yarn and the idea of making a self-patterning baby sweater out of it.

So, Dell, here are the pictures of the UGLY, non-cute, terribly difficult to make sweater.

It’s a little awkward getting pictures of a sweater on straight needles.

Sweater happy.

Dell came to Houston this weekend for a time of excitement and touristy type things … and we basically sat around and knit all weekend. Yay!
