I did it!!
I finally sewed something with my new sewing machine! (And no, it was not paper like scrapbooking overachievers — kidding! — do.)
I woke up way too early on Saturday and decided to pull out the sewing machine. I’d bought a cute fabric remnant at Wal-Mart so I could play and also get the machine de-greased from the factory oiling. The fabric was a 21″ rectangle … evenly cut, lightweight, etc.
I’d had this idea about making a pillow for the cats — with a twist.
See, they like sleeping on clothes more than anything else except MAYBE flannel sheets. So I thought, “What if I stuffed a pillow with old t-shirts or other clothes that are too embarassing or in too bad shape to give away?”
So I did. I sewed up each side of the pillow (including the fold edge, to give it a cleaner look), leaving a space for stuffing. I folded t-shirts and a pair of pants in a typical folding fashion, stuffed the pillow, and put it on the couch to see if the cats would like it before I sewed up the rest of the seam.
I turned around and when I looked back Clive was already on the pillow. They LOVE it. I can’t get them off of it when I want to finish the edge. So — there you go! I sewed!
