California . . . the “Home” Stretch

Whew, her 1st year book is finally done (minus the Thanksgiving photos that got misplaced at the developers and the Bjorn one I want to copy from Erin).

Here is a page from the “I-don’t-have-any-more-strap-pages–here-is-set-of-top-loading-strap-pages-I-bought-on-accident”–desperation-to-finish-this-book camp of pages. After working with the top-loading, though, I think I am going to defect . . .I like being able to make the page outside of the book. It makes it a lot easier to work!

I like these pages a lot . . . I got the action-tipping of the photos (in the Cooking Fun page) idea from a Scrapbooking book I picked up from the Scrappy’s anniversary sale for 50 cents.

Of course, the titles suck. “Fun with Kelsi” and “Cooking Fun” on facing pages? Original!!

(Erin, I figured out how to mae my thumbnails smaller now!!)

“Seals & Pelicans” was one of those event-type spread that you don’t realize at the time you are shooting. We tried so hard to capture the damned pelican because how often do you really get this close to a pelican. I had to sacrifice a lot of pictures . . .yes there actually were more!!

By the way, that little hook thing on the end of the pelican’s beak is really scary!!

I got creative with the whole torn page look. Does anyone know the secret for doing this right? I am sure it is in my Scrapbooking tome I got for Christmas. I struggled to make the tears not under cut the photo. Anyway, I liked the idea of making the title out of scrap ocean and beach shots. Another idea from my 50 cent book!

Having fun wth those colored backgrounds! If anyone hears of a sale on plain-colored 12X12 sheets, let me know!

page_train.JPG

Here is another “I-would-kill-for-a-bleeding-sticker” pages. I had to draw the train and then I messed up and didn’t leave enough room for the smoke stack. My model? The Sesame Street Teach and Go train, driven by Big Bird on speed!

I got the layout idea for this page from an advertisement in a Scrapbooking magazine for layout templates. Cheater!!

And, the final page!! Yes, the layout look the same as the other one, but I wanted to get all of these photos on the pages and there was no other way to do it! Again, my horse for a sticker or cut-out, but good God I am done with this book and ready for #2!!!

Hey — go to any of the MJDesigns stores around town. They’re all closing and they’re all having 20% off sales. All of their scrapbooking stuff, including the huge sheets of paper for backgrounds, are on sale. Adelle and I were at the one in Frisco and they actually had a large selection of paper, letters, stickers, punch-outs, and those wacky scissors I can never make work.
